Compass is a free program for homeless and low-income students of Springfield School District 186. The after-school program includes academics, life skills, and a healthy dinner served family-style. The program also operates a summer camp which focuses on reducing summer learning loss and providing enrichment activities. Since becoming a program of Family Service Center in 2012, Compass grew from a small ministry of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church to an after-school program serving multiple schools, a summer camp, and a backpack feeding program. Effective July 1, 2016, Compass launched as its own non-profit agency, "Compass for Kids, Inc."
