Post-Adoption and Guardianship Respite The Adoption and Subsidized Guardianship Respite Program of Family Service Center of Sangamon County began providing these services to adoptive families in 2005. Our program recognizes that finalizing an adoption is just the beginning of a life-long process. As parents and children grow and change, they may encounter difficulties from time to time in their relationships, which are further complicated by the unique factor of adoption.

Specialized services are offered to assist adoptive families by providing RESPITE to the adoptive parents. RESPITE services are provided to children who were former wards of the Department of Children and Family Services that were adopted or in a subsidized guardianship placement.

Our RESPITE program provides site-based RESPITE one weekday evening each month and one Saturday day each month. Additionally, in-home hourly RESPITE is provided to families as needed. We also offer our of home (overnight) RESPITE on a scheduled or an emergency basis either through placement in licensed foster homes or through a voucher system with adoptive parents.

Specialized camping experiences may be offered based on available resources. The Adoption and Subsidized Guardianship RESPITE Program is currently funded through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. All services are therefore offered without a charge to families in need. For more information, please call us at (217) 528-8406 or e-mail us at fsc@service2families.com
