The Adoption and Subsidized Guardianship
Preservation Program of Family Service Center of
Sangamon County has been providing services to
adoptive families since 1994. Our program recognizes
that finalizing an adoption is just the beginning of
a life-long process. As parents and children grow
and change, they may encounter difficulties from
time to time in their relationships, which are
further complicated by the unique factor of
adoption. Specialized services are offered to assist
adoptive families in dealing with these life changes
both through individual and family counseling and
also through groups. The Adoption and Subsidized
Guardianship Preservation Program can assist
families with a wide range of issues such as:
- Family adjustment issues
- Subsidy problems
- Academic placement issues
- Explaining birth history to children and
siblings
- Peer problems
- Attachment difficulties
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Chronic lying and/or stealing
- Aggression
- Eating and sleeping disturbances
- Sexual acting out
- Search questions or concerns
